Dear Parent & Carers
Every year the sun decides to make its appearance to coincide with the start of our GCSE written exams!
I am assuming this is to bring light and positivity to our amazing Year 11 who now have the chance to show what they have learnt in their 5 year journey at Applemore! We are so proud of you all. The experiences however never stop.
Thank you to the Parents who came on Tuesday evening to hear the amazing stories of Zanzibar. This week we have also been out on both Bronze and Silver DofE expeditions, been to a 'behind the scenes' tour of St Mary's and today are at Number 10!
Have a lovely sunny weekend.

DofE Silver & Bronze 2-Day Practice Expedition
|
A massive well done to our DofE students who completed their Bronze and Silver Practice Expeditions last week! On Day 1, students set off from Fritham to camp in Harry's Island, where they set up their tents and then cooked their own dinners. On Day 2, students headed off to Holmsley in wonderfully warm weather. At the end of the day, we said goodbye to our Bronze students, leaving the Silver students to set up camp for night two in Avon Tyrell. On Day 3, the heavens opened as the students made their final journey towards Longslade Bottom.
A successful few days for all students, who were a credit to the school throughout! Many skills have been practiced, including: map reading, navigation, campcraft, cooking, and pacing. Well done everyone!

Students will continue to have their full timetabled lessons until Thursday 6th June. Students will be able to go home after the English exam on this day. After this date, students will only come in for their seminars*, exams, and timetabled lessons where they have not yet completed all exam papers.
Seminars - All subjects will be running ‘seminar revision sessions’ which take place at 8.30am for morning exams (which will start promptly at 9.30am) and 12.30pm for afternoon exams (which will start promptly at 1.30pm. The seminars will take place in the school canteen where students will also be able to access food and a drink. We fully recommend attendance at these sessions as they aim to set students up in the right frame of mind before their exams.

Physical Education
On Wednesday this week, we took 30 students on a rewards trip to visit St Mary's Stadium. Due to their fantastic commitment and successes this year representing the school, the students had the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of the stadium. Additionally, Southampton Football Club delivered a careers workshop to the students and gave them the opportunity to ask questions relating to sport coaching and related careers. Both students and staff had an amazing experience that ended our 2023-24 football season on a high!
A special thank you to Mr Whitehorn for taking the time to organise such a fantastic trip for our sporting students!

On Thursday, year 9 were invited to the Guildhall in Southampton, to take part in the Get Inspired Southampton and New Forest Careers Fayre. They were fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours talking to real employees for a huge range of different companies in different fields. The whole fayre was extremely interactive, with students getting really stuck in with VR head sets, physical games, quizzes and competitions. Companies involved at the event were from education, construction, theatre, hospitality, and many more. The students really enjoyed it, but were also a credit to Applemore College.

Mrs Gray (Cover Supervisor)
|
I joined Applemore College in September 2021 as a Learning Support Assistant supporting our SEND students in and out of the Classroom. For the last 18-months, I have been the school's Cover Supervisor where I support students carrying out pre-prepared exercises when teaching staff are on short-term absence. I absolutely love my job, helping and supporting our students to thrive and learn on a daily basis. I feel really privileged as I get to see lots of different subjects and courses.

A couple of Fun Facts about Mrs Gray
I love to sing and have joined the School's Staff Band 'Wrong Direction'... some of you may have already met me as we took part in this year's Applemore's Got Talent.
