Building on the foundations of 'Can Applemore Sing 23', 'Applemore’s Got Talent 24' started well with fantastic auditions and an array of talents. These included dance, gymnastics, singing and ventriloquism. We look forward to getting more diverse and dynamic talent next year.
The show itself was a huge success with an incredibly supportive audience. Our winners displayed confidence and assured performances. The Winner for Originality was Rufus W-L who sung You're Welcome from Moana. The Winner for Creativity was The Fairies (comprising of Annie D - vocals, Jake M - Lead Guitar, Ollie M - Rhythm Guitar, Oliver B - Bass, Elliot L - Drums) who performed One Way or Another by Blondie. The Overall Winner was Riley D performing a hilarious ventriloquist act alongside partner in arms Sebastian.

We were extremely proud of our Year 7 and 8 students that participated in the annual UKMT Junior Maths Challenge on Thursday morning. We hope they enjoyed getting stuck into some challenging puzzles and we can’t wait to hear how they’ve got on!

Year 7 Network Rail Day 'Lightbulb Moments'
|
In this workshop the year 7s designed a train station and applied basic engineering principles, such as accessibility considerations as well as the name of the different parts, like the canopy.
They were tested on their problem solving skills when faced with a legal challenge by a Stakeholder, and the workshop culminated with a presentation from the students, enabling them to practise their public speaking skills.
To help them with this, the Applemore Model Railway club showed each group the features of a station in model form on one of their layouts.
We found out that a lot of the year 7s had never been on a train or been to a station before. The students then took those ideas and put them into their designs.
Many thanks to the Talent Foundry and Network Rail volunteers for a great event.

Our amazing MFL department launched their new German Club yesterday for our year 7s and 8s. If your child is interested in joining the club on a Thursday lunchtime, please remind them to see Frau Weller.
Auf Wiedersehen 👋

Congratulations Mr Taylor!
|
Mr Taylor ran the London Marathon last weekend for Diabetes UK. He raised over £2100 and finished in a time of 5:11:20.
He enjoyed the experience and hopes that it will inspire students to take on challenges and believe that they can achieve anything that they put their minds to.
"To finish the marathon is my biggest achievement to date, I can't wait to start preparing for my next challenge".

Hello, I am Mrs Page and one of my roles within Applemore is Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead as well as an LSA (Learning Support Assistant).
I have been an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) for many years and was lucky to attend the first Secondary School Emotional Literacy Cohort in this area.
I feel that during a Young Adult's Secondary School journey, valuing and developing their understanding and awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing is integral in helping them to reach their full potential.
I really enjoy being part of Applemore - working with all students, encouraging and supporting them along their Applemore journey.

A couple of Fun Facts about Mrs Page- I play badminton regularly. Enjoy making people smile. Plus, I have a variety of SpongeBob paraphernalia including many lunchboxes collected over the years.

Our MFL department have been helping some of our local primary schools with teaching French to year 5 and 6 pupils. Madame Weller has just finished two successful terms working with Waterside Primary School, introducing new language topics through songs and games. She is now at Beaulieu Village Primary once a week where she is introducing new language topics and boosting cultural understanding.

This week we've been blown away with the achievements of ex-student Govind and his experiences in the media, sales and marketing industries! We love his messages about having a positive mindset and courage to pursue your passions. He's clearly put in a lot of hard work, but is having incredible fun at the same time! Proud of you Gov! 🎓

What Parents Need to Know
|
Close to a third of children in the UK consume energy drinks at least once every week 😲🥤While these high-caffeine beverages might be touted as a shortcut to a boost in focus and productivity, even a moderate intake can lead to significant impacts on the heart, sleeping patterns and mental wellbeing. With celebrity spokespeople, colourful branding and the potential added element of peer pressure, it's unsurprising that young people are sometimes drawn to these products, often unaware of the potential negative impact they might be having on mind and body. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide dives into the health pitfalls of energy drinks and offers expert tips on addressing concerns.
