"You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so... get on your way!" Dr Seuss
Dear Parent/Carer
It has been another action-packed week at Applemore with rewards days, Parent's evenings, trips, sports fixtures, play rehearsals and our Apprenticeship week events. Having a future goal to reach can really help you to stay focused and motivated and understanding what your future careers path might look like is a great start in building confidence and aligned skills.
This week we had a fantastic live demonstration of what it takes to be a very successful barber and an apprenticeship evening featuring the NHS, the Navy, SETA engineering, the border force, Trant Engineering, college apprenticeships and many more. There is an excellent careers section in our LRC so please do come and explore ideas and talk to Ms Charrett about how we can help you find what's right for you.
With very best wishes
Clare

As the second part of Salters Chemistry Experience, fifteen Year 10 Students were invited to tour Fawley Site. They completed a practical filtering dirty water using a combination of sand, gravel and charcoal, competing against other groups. They also had a fantastic careers talk in the afternoon. We're very grateful to Exxon for the opportunity.

It's been a super sporty Friday at Applemore, with students across years 7-10 taking part in the latest Interhouse competitions. It was a case of "heads up" as table tennis balls were flying in the school hall, and in the leisure centre the next LeBron James' and Steph Curry's were on show in the basketball!
Thank you and well done to everyone that took part today. We saw an excellent display of sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork throughout the day! Special thank you to our Year 11 Sport Ambassadors who did a fantastic job coaching and scoring today for all year groups, and the PE staff who oversaw the organisation and running of the day.

U16 Basketball
We took four players to New Forest Academy, who played exceptionally well. After the first 5 minutes we were losing 8-2. However, by the end of the 2nd quarter we were winning 25-12, thanks to Sam and Kade with their fantastic off-the-ball movement. By the third quarter, our challenge was fatigue. However, we continued to play with good intensity and were winning by 16 points thanks to deep corner threes by Noah and Ben. Overall, we won 54-29, Kade with 21 points. MVP = Kade.

Arty News
This week has been a really busy and enjoyable one in the Art and Photography Department. The highlight has been the 'Graffiti With Whearley' rewards sessions (please see this week's Artists of the Week below). Artists created individual pieces which will be displayed as a collective in the near future. We were so pleased with the results which exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Mrs Brearley for being so amazing and for her help in ensuring that the sessions were so successful.
Mrs Lowe and myself had the pleasure of seeing so many year 7 art students and their parents and carers at the Parents Evening on Thursday. It was such a positive evening with lovely conversations about student art journeys. Thank you to Mrs Lowe and to the parents and carers who took the time to come and chat.
Finally, thank you to Kathleen, in year 7, who kindly made me this wonderful 'I Love Art' piece. I love it!! Thank you to all the art and photography teachers and young artists and photographers who have made this another fantastic week.

Fake news is a widespread issue in the digital world, and it's overwhelmingly likely that both children and adults will be exposed to it online. In fact, a study from the Alan Turing Institute has found that 94% of people in the UK have encountered misinformation on social media and that’s only the ones who were aware of it! However, while some fake news is shared mistakenly by well-meaning individuals, it’s also shared by scammers and other cyber-criminals to lend legitimacy to their con. While this presents a clear risk to children and young people online, the question remains as to how we can protect them against such tactics. This week’s guide offers expert advice on the specific ways scammers use misinformation and how to safeguard younger users against these techniques.
