"Leaders aren’t born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work" Vince Lombardi
Dear Parent/Carer
It has been fantastic this week to see so many of our wonderful students wanting to be leaders and demonstrating excellent leadership skills. This week we have launched our prefect assembly for Year 10 and an opportunity to be selected to visit No 10.
I have also had the privilege of meeting with a group of Year 11 students, whose hard work and determination has been rewarded with very impressive marks on their Creative iMedia NEA and a group of Year 9 students who are going to present their anti-bullying campaign to the rest of the school. As part of our student voice, I have also seen some fantastic artwork, watched some very imaginative drama (breaking the 4th wall), listened to a really impressive Matilda rehearsal, read some amazing pieces of creating writing and seen the excitement of those taking part in the National Maths Challenge. What a talented array of students Applemore has!
With very best wishes
Clare

Our four Year 10 students, Dexstar, Matthew, Jacob and Noah, were selected at interview back in September to complete Beaulieu Motor Museum's 3-month course (every Tuesday and Thursday evening) and completed it with flying colours. Only 8 young people completed the course (4 from other schools), so we are incredibly proud of our students. The car was a wreck when they first started working on it and did not start. It now works perfectly and looks great!

William (pictured below), completed the course last year and was invited back this year as a mentor. He will continue working with the team in the future and is pursuing a career in car mechanics when he leaves school. His mum said today that, "the whole experience has been life changing for him and has boosted his confidence and self esteem" - so great to hear.

Creative iMedia
This week's Milkshake Monday, hosted by Ms Williams, was a celebration of the terrific efforts of Year 11 iMedia Students who recently completed their first of two assignments in their course. The students all reached and/or exceeded their expected grades!
Mr Kemp said, "I'm so incredibly proud of our students. Their preparation, execution, evidencing, skills and final products were some of the best I've ever seen in my two decades working here."
These feelings were echoed by Ms Williams, "What a lovely gathering listening to the students experiences throughout the assignment - the launch days are certainly working wonders with our NEA courses like iMedia."

The day started with a very informative guest speaker, followed by some time in the laboratory where they got to make aspirin. The day ended with a panel of three guest speakers talking about their roles within the industry. The second part of this trip is next Thursday where the students will be visiting Exxon.

With Warhammer Club now into its eighth week, members are really starting to show their battle skills and a sincere keenness to immerse themselves into this fantasy sci-fi game.
Warhammer is a hugely enjoyed gaming system of using scaled miniatures to enact battles on an epic scale. Its history started back in 1983 when the first edition of Warhammer was released and was the first game of its kind to use specifically designed miniatures. This has grown over more than 30+ years into a globally dominant games series. With all age groups enjoying the game at any level they are comfortable with.
The Warhammer Club has been reformed and under the careful guidance of Mr Mills who is and avid gamer himself and has been painting miniatures for over 40+years! This week's club saw even more new members attending and would welcome anyone wishing to either learn or discover new ways to play. Some people just love to paint or build the models and others just love to immerse themselves into the glory of battle.
This week we're showing off some of the talents from miniatures painting. Keeping a keen eye on those brush strokes. Also we can see some battles in progress, notably the numerous Orcs and deadly Daemons as they clash on the battlefield. Some really amazing painting skills I'm sure you'll agree!

This week the school and Hythe and Dibden Youth Football Club (H&D YFC), renewed a 10-year partnership contract. Ten years ago, when the previous contract was signed, H&D YFC started with nine boys teams. Now, the community club has grown to 44 teams, 14 of them being girls only teams. This commitment by both organisations will ensure the community will continue to grow.
Furthermore, we're pleased to confirm that our planning application has been granted by local authorities to expand and develop container area into a permanent Sports Pavilion structure. Changing rooms, classroom and kitchen areas will be installed inside. Work will begin during the Easter holidays.
Thank you to all who have helped so far - we're rather excited to see the Sports Pavilion fully functional for the Applemore Community.

Arty News
This week's arty highlights have been seeing the year 8's continue with their Kusama inspired plates, which are looking sooo good! I can't wait to share the final results with you.
Art Club artists had fun this week, creating bowls from old vinyl records. The results look really cool. It is an example of arty upcycling at its best. Vinyl records that were destined for landfill, being re-purposed into functional and fun products. Thank you to Mrs Brearley for her help running the club. If you would like to join, then we look forward to seeing you every Wednesday from 3pm until 4pm.
I visited Testwood School earlier this week, and was proud to show sketchbooks from art students from year 10 and 11 to art teachers from eighteen other schools. They were blown away by the wonderful work on show. Thank you Choe, Lily, Fia, Phoebe, Rio and Ophelia for allowing me to showcase your amazing work.
