A message from Ms Williams

Dear Parent/Carer

Well, it is show week at Applemore and what a show it is! I have the absolute privilege of seeing and hearing this fantastic performance grow from September and could not be more proud of everyone connected to it.

School shows epitomise everything that we are about at Applemore. They build resilience and determination. They show how to believe in yourself and others and they help to grow respect for a whole host of different individuals, from different Year groups - forming lifelong friendships, memories and a passion for community.

Thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to put this together, to all the Parents for helping with learning lines, learning lyrics, providing costumes, food and lifts and really importantly coming to see the show, and most importantly to all the incredible cast who not only have performed night after night each evening, but have also been 'on tour' each day at our feeder Primary schools; you are all absolutely awesome! I will be back tonight for one last time...

With very best wishes

Clare

Celebrating Success

Engineering

On Friday 7th March, the F1 in Schools KS3 Team took part in their first competition. This is an international event where students from around the world compete in regional events with the aim of competing in the International final held in Adu Dabi.

The teams need to race a model F1 car they have designed and made to very specific standards down a track. The need to explain their design journey to a set of judges, produce a comprehensive design portfolio and design and make a pit display area. Each member of the team has a specific role. The team were up against stiff competition from the South and West of England and were able to compete well with them despite this being our first appearance.

English

Working on the farm, clearing vegetation, building fires in the forest - a group of Year 10 students experienced springtime in the New Forest as inspiration for writing. Led by writer Yarrow Townsend, we fed cows and sheep, moved goats to pasture and socialised rabbits and chicks. Then, deep in the forest, we helped clear invasive plants and burned them. Finally, we returned to the treehouse for sensory writing based on our experiences. It was an inspiring day for all. Well done to the students for their wonderful teamwork and engagement!

Comic Relief 2025

Let's! Watch! Darts!

Today we've been celebrating Comic Relief, with students and staff wearing red items of clothing, taking part in quizzes, purchasing yummy treats from the bake sale, but be under no doubt... the most anticipated event of the day was the staff darts!

Led by Master of Ceremonies Mr Poole, eight of our amazing staff braved the stage in front of a raucous crowd of students, and dazzled the arena with their dance move walk-on's and spectacular 'arrows'.

A few loose darts may have landed in Mr Wickens' speakers (oops!) but overall, an impressive levels of darts on show! The eventual winner, he would say 'unsurprisingly', was Lightning Lopez! Well done to all our other competitors: Mrs Bruce, Mrs Ballard, Mrs Passmore, Mrs Williams, Mr Wickens, Mr Salzman and Mr Saunders!

Sports Update

Winners! Well done to our superb Year 7 team, who came from behind to beat Priestlands 4-3 earlier in the week! Special mention to Elsie who score a hat-trick and was the MVP. Here they are post-match ha-ha!

Art is Everywhere!

Arty News

Only two weeks to Easter...where does the time go?! This week has seen more 3D outcomes, which I love to see.

Year 7's made some wonderful wire sculptures, based on animals, but they magically morphed into wonderful abstract pieces. Photos to follow next week.

Year 8 explored Chinese pinch pots, as part of their 'The Wonders of the Far East' module and designed and made maquettes of pots they will model full size later.

Year 9's are responding to William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement (my favourite!), where they will be printing on fabric and creating useful, decorative pieces.

Year 10's completed their fabric painting and sewing experiments, which are so colourful and creative, and Year 11's are focusing on preparing for their 10-hour exam, after Easter.

Phew!! Time definitely does fly, when you're having fun! Thanks, as always for making this week another creative whirlwind!

#WakeUpWednesday

You may already know that livestreaming plays a major role in children’s entertainment, with a wide range of personalities influencing young viewers in both positive and negative ways. While watching streamers can be fun, it also comes with significant risks, including misinformation, financial harms, and inappropriate content.

Popular streaming platform Twitch has over 2.5 million viewers at any given time, which is why it’s more important than ever to stay informed. This week’s guide explores the potential dangers of livestreaming and offers essential insights to help you protect the children in your care.
